The large drums were made from a Sequoiadendron giganteum (sequoia) from Konstanz, Germany, which was cut into 26 pieces. The tree, weighing almost 27 tons, was hollowed out and 26 large drums with animal skins from Switzerland were created.
"The shapes of grown wood inspired me to create musical instruments from it."
"No tree was ever cut down because of my instruments!"
"The foresters of Eastern Switzerland were informed of my search."
"I never looked for the tree for an instrument, but the instrument was created from the tree."
"I let nature guide me in my work."
Butterflies are made from the hratwood of the trees
All butterflies, also new creations can be purchased
The Sequoia Drum Tree
This Sequoia stood in front of the Casino in Konstanz and was infested with the Halimash fungus.
From this tree trunk weighing 26 tons, 26 drums of different sizes were made.
Originally the idea was to make these drums available to schools through sponsors and to bring these giant instruments together once a year at a mammoth festival and play them.
Today these drums are for sale and can be made and delivered individually on request.
